Editorial Process and Peer Review
For the purposes of the REH’s editorial policies, the Editorial Team consists of the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editors.
Preliminary Assessment
All manuscripts submitted to the Revista Eletrônica Estudos Hegelianos first undergo a preliminary assessment by the Editorial Team, which verifies their suitability for the journal’s scope, Author Guidelines, formal submission requirements, and policies on ethics and academic integrity.
Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the authors for adjustment or rejected without being sent for external review. The preliminary assessment does not replace the evaluation of academic merit conducted by reviewers.
Article Review
Articles approved at the preliminary stage are sent to two independent reviewers who are specialists in the manuscript’s subject matter and have no conflicts of interest with its authorship or the research under review. The review is conducted under a double-anonymous procedure, so that the identities of authors and reviewers are not disclosed during the process.
Reviewers may recommend:
• acceptance;
• acceptance subject to revisions;
• substantial revision and submission to a new round of review;
• rejection.
Review reports are advisory and do not constitute binding votes. The final decision on publication rests with the responsible editor, based on the reasons provided by the reviewers, the manuscript’s academic quality, its suitability for the journal’s scope, and its compliance with the editorial guidelines.
When both reports recommend acceptance, including acceptance subject to revisions, the article may be accepted after the requested changes have been verified. When both recommend rejection, the article will be rejected.
In the event of conflicting reports, the responsible editor will assess the reasons given in each report and may make a reasoned editorial decision based on the two evaluations received. When the disagreement concerns substantive issues that cannot be resolved by the Editorial Team, the manuscript will be sent to a third independent reviewer. A third report is therefore not requested automatically.
When revisions are requested, authors must submit a new version of the manuscript and identify the changes made. Depending on the extent and nature of the changes, the revised version may be examined by the responsible editor or returned to the reviewers.
Review of Book Reviews, Interviews, and Translations
Book reviews, interviews, and translations undergo a preliminary assessment by the Editorial Team and are sent to at least one specialist, who may be an ad hoc reviewer or a member of the Editorial Board or Advisory Board, provided that the person has expertise in the relevant field and no conflict of interest.
These contributions are also reviewed anonymously. The reviewer may recommend acceptance, revisions, or rejection. The final decision rests with a member of the Editorial Team who did not participate in the authorship, translation, or preparation of the text under review.
Anonymity and Confidentiality
The journal adopts procedures intended to preserve the anonymity of authors and reviewers during the review process. Authors must remove from the manuscript and file properties all information that could identify their authorship.
The OJS system is used to assist with file anonymization, preservation of confidentiality, and separation of editorial roles. Responsibility for ensuring the independence, impartiality, and confidentiality of the review process nevertheless rests with the journal and the editors responsible for the process.
Submissions by Members of the Journal
Members of the Editorial Board, as well as individuals who serve as reviewers, may submit work to the journal, subject to the restrictions established in its conflict-of-interest policy. In such cases, the author will be excluded from every stage of the management, review, and decision concerning the author’s own manuscript, and the process will be handled by another independent editor.
Associate Editors may submit articles only to special issues organized by guest editors. In such cases, they will be excluded from every stage of the management, review, and decision concerning their own manuscript. These articles will undergo the same double-anonymous review by two independent reviewers as all other research articles.
The Editor-in-Chief does not submit or publish research articles, whether sole-authored or co-authored, in REH. The Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors may propose and prepare translations for publication in the journal. When the translator is a member of the Editorial Team, that person will be excluded from the evaluation and decision concerning the translation. The text will be reviewed by at least one independent specialist, and the publication decision will rest with another member of the Editorial Team.

Special Issues and Guest Editors
Articles intended for special issues are subject to the same review criteria, editorial independence, and peer review procedures as articles received through regular submission.
Guest editors may be responsible for overseeing all manuscripts submitted to a special issue. Their academic qualifications must be reviewed and approved in advance by the Editorial Team, and their work will be supervised by the Editor-in-Chief or another designated Associate Editor.
Guest editors may not submit or publish research articles, whether sole-authored or co-authored, in the special issue for which they are responsible. This restriction does not prevent them from signing the issue’s introduction or editorial.
The Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors retain responsibility for compliance with the journal’s policies, the independence of editorial decisions, and all content published in special issues, subject to the mandatory exclusion of any editor from all stages concerning texts they have authored or co-authored or whenever a conflict of interest exists.
Invited Articles
The REH may publish invited articles in both regular and special issues. Invited-article status will be expressly identified on the article page and in the published version. The restrictions governing the publication of articles by members of the Editorial Team also apply to invited articles. Accordingly, the Editor-in-Chief does not publish invited articles, and Associate Editors may not be authors or co-authors of invited articles. Associate Editors may publish articles only in special issues organized by guest editors, provided that such articles undergo double-anonymous review by two independent reviewers.
In each issue, invited research articles may not exceed three contributions or account for more than 25% of all research articles published, whichever limit is reached first. This restriction does not apply to editorials, introductions, interviews, translations, or other content that does not constitute a research article.
Invited articles will undergo editorial review by at least two editors with expertise in the manuscript’s subject matter and no conflicts of interest with its authorship.
Because of the nature of the invitation, this editorial review will not be anonymous. Each editor will independently assess the manuscript’s originality, argumentative rigor, conceptual consistency, quality and relevance of the bibliography, suitability for the journal’s scope, and compliance with its policies on ethics and academic integrity.
The editors may recommend acceptance, acceptance subject to revisions, substantial revision, or rejection of the manuscript.
An invitation from the journal does not imply unconditional acceptance of the manuscript. Publication depends on editorial approval and completion of any requested revisions.
When the specificity of the topic requires specialist assessment, when there is substantive disagreement between the editors, or when they consider an additional independent examination necessary, the manuscript may be sent to one or more external reviewers. In such cases, external review will be conducted under a double-anonymous procedure.
The published version will state that the text is an invited article and will identify the review procedure adopted, distinguishing between editorial review and external peer review.
