Abstract
I intend to discuss the subject-matter of the historicity of philosophy in Hegel and Heidegger, contrasting and opposing their assumptions. In constrast to historicism, which does not solve the problem of historicity of philosophy, since it tends to dissolve philosophy into history or philosophy, Hegel and Heidegger develop a genuine philosophical theory of the history of philosophy out of a philosofical interest in truth. This genuine philosophical interest in truth results from their respective conceptions of philosophy, which include a critical stand against Modernity in both philosophers. Both thinkers are not only modern but also critical thinkers of Modernity - one that entered a stage of self-reflection. Hegel's Heidegger's philosophy of history is at the same time the key to a critical philosophy of history's Modernity.
