About the Journal
The Revista Eletrônica Estudos Hegelianos (REH) was founded in 2004 by the board of the Brazilian Hegel Society (SHB) with the aim of promoting the study and research of Hegel’s philosophy in Brazil. The journal publishes both independently submitted articles and contributions resulting from international congresses and other relevant academic activities organized by the SHB and the broader Hegel-Forschung community.
REH publishes articles, book reviews, translations, and interviews that contribute to Hegelian studies in dialogue with Classical German Philosophy, social philosophy, and contemporary interpretations of Hegel. Manuscripts are subject to the quality-control procedures described on the Editorial Process and Peer Review page, according to the type and nature of the contribution.
With internationalization as its guiding horizon, the journal has a twofold aim: (1) to make the most relevant developments in Hegel scholarship accessible to Brazilian researchers and students and (2) to promote internationally the Hegelian research conducted in Brazil. Academic excellence and compliance with the journal’s editorial and ethical policies are fundamental criteria for publication. Submissions addressing topics shared by Hegel and other thinkers of Classical German Philosophy, or shedding light on Hegelian problems through engagement with these thinkers, are welcome.
Editorial History
The first six issues of REH were edited by Prof. Dr. Alfredo Moraes (UFPE). From 2007, the editorial work was taken over by Prof. Dr. Manuel Moreira da Silva (Unicentro), who edited issues 7 to 10. Issues 11 to 17 were overseen by Prof. Dr. Christian Klotz (UFG). Starting with issue 18, the journal was led by Prof. Dr. Márcia Cristina Ferreira Gonçalves (UERJ), with Prof. Dr. Federico Sanguinetti (UFRN) initially serving as associate editor. During this period, the journal significantly expanded its international visibility. Since 2025, the journal has been led by Editor-in-Chief Dr. Emmanuel Nakamura (Cebrap / FU-Berlin / AvH-Stiftung), alongside associate editors Ms. Fabiana Del Mastro (USP), Prof. Dr. Hernandez Vivan Eichenberger (IFC), Prof. Dr. Patrícia Riffel de Almeida (Unicentro), and Dr. Renata Inarah Guerra Santos (USP).
Editorial Structure and Responsibilities
For the purposes of the journal’s policies, the Editorial Team consists of the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editors. The Editor-in-Chief coordinates the journal’s editorial policy and general operations, while the Associate Editors assist with manuscript management, reviewer selection, and oversight of the review process.
The Editorial Board contributes to the journal’s academic development and may assist with manuscript evaluation, reviewer recommendations, and the organization of special issues. The Advisory Board serves a consultative role, supporting the journal’s academic direction, international visibility, and institutional development.
Membership of the Editorial Board or Advisory Board does not automatically grant access to submissions, peer reviews, or editorial decisions in the OJS system. Access to the editorial workflow is granted only to those responsible for managing each individual process, in accordance with the journal’s policies on confidentiality, editorial independence, and conflicts of interest.
Focus and Scope
In its current form, the REH seeks to broaden its thematic scope, aiming to publish articles, reviews, and translations that contribute to Hegelian studies in dialogue with the development of Classical German Philosophy and its contemporary interpretations. The only requirement is the academic excellence of the submissions. In this sense, we welcome contributions that address topics shared by Hegel and other thinkers of Classical German Philosophy, or that, by engaging with the philosophy of these authors, help shed light on Hegelian problems.
Editorial Process
All manuscripts submitted to the REH first undergo a preliminary assessment by the Editorial Team, which verifies their suitability for the journal’s scope, Author Guidelines, formal submission requirements, and policies on ethics and academic integrity.
Articles approved at this stage are sent to two independent reviewers under a double-anonymous peer review procedure. Reviewers may recommend acceptance, acceptance subject to revisions, a new round of review following substantial revision, or rejection of the manuscript. Review reports are advisory, and the final decision rests with the responsible editor, based on the evaluations received and the journal’s editorial policies.
Reviews, interviews, and translations are evaluated by at least one specialist, with anonymity likewise preserved. Special issues and invited articles are subject to the same requirements of editorial independence and quality control as regular submissions.
