Força e Entendimento: Um argumento contra o fisicismo

Resumo

RESUMO: O artigo tenciona identificar, no final do capítulo “Força e Entendimento”, da Fenomenologia do Espírito de Hegel, um argumento contra a pretensão do fisicismo segundo a qual tudo que existe ou acontece pode ser completamente descrito pelo vocabulário da física. Como o próprio Hegel explicita este argumento num contexto imanente da obra, sem referência explícita ao fisicismo, o autor propõe-se disseca-lo e isolá-lo do resto da exposição hegeliana, para mostrar a seguir que, de acordo com o argumento hegeliano, o vocabulário da física não é internamente explicável, que ele não se constitui de termos basais e de combinações desses, mas contém termos não-basais, que não podem ser, neste vocabulário, reduzidos a termos basais. O que significa, ao fim e ao cabo, que o vocabulário da física é explanatoriamente insuficiente, não-autônomo.

ABSTRACT: This article aims to identify an Hegelian argument, hidden at the end of the chapter “Force and Understanding” of the Phenomenology of Spirit, which defeats the physicalistic claim that every entity and every event can be completely described by the vocabulary of physics. Since Hegel’s own explanation isn’t explicitly directed against physicism, but is embedded in a phenomenological context, the author first proposes to dissect this argument and isolate it from the rest of the Hegel’s explanations. Then it is shown that, by virtue of the He-gelian argument, the vocabulary of physics cannot be explicated internally. And since this vocabulary, obvi-ously, is not constituted of basic terms together with combinations of these, the terms of this vocabulary thus cannot be reduced within the vocabulary to basic terms. This means that the vocabulary of physics is explanatorily incomplete and thus non-autonomous.
