Hegel between the Abandonment of the Action’s Fruits and the Living Individuality
Abstract
The article aims to explore the mutual grounds between Hegel’s account of Indian poetry in his Aesthetics courses and two 1827 articles concerning the Bhagavad-Gita in an attempt to understand the author’s spiritual hierarchy of peoples, in which the Greek living individuality represents the highest point and the Indian moral understanding, due to its conception of individuality, fails to meet the standards for true spiritual representation. However, a significant change in the 1827 articles concerns the clear delineation of Hegel’s European perspective, which puts into question the European capacity to achieve a complete understanding of the Indian worldview.
